Atwater History

Atwater's history dates back to the late 1800s when M. D. Atwater was one of the largest land owners of the area. He had a huge contribution in developing the agricultural community of the area, and the place was named after him. Two of the other influences on the area include the Highway 99, and the Castle Air Force Base which was set up in 1941 as an aircrew training facility by the US Army. The City of Atwater was incorporated in 1922.
